I attended a most interesting workshop in January at Mason Music in Mount Gravatt.
I was particularly interested in learning about "Rote Repertoire" presented by Samantha Coates (author of BLITZ Books).
Why? Most of us are taught to read the notes from the first lesson that we have. It was considered 'wrong' to teach by rote. Well, what about a combination of both?
Or even, in some cases learn by rote first before learning to read the notes! For most of the teachers at the Workshop this is a new and exciting concept and so many different ideas can emerge from this "Rote" idea. Suffice it to say that I have come away with some new and fresh ideas to use when needed.
